Top Ten Tuesday: Historical settings I'd love to read about

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. Each Tuesday we make a list of books, tv shows, items etc. inspired by the weekly topic. This Tuesday it's all about the past and future. I've chosen the past since I'm going to talk about historical settings - or periods - I'd love to read about.

16th century France
I might have become a bit obsessed with the TV show; Reign, so I would love to read books set in that time period, preferably about Mary and Francis!

Here's some of the books I've been recommended based on my love for Reign.
  • Prisoners in the Palace by Michaela MacColl
  • The Wild Queen by Carolyn Meyer
  • The Reign series based on the TV show by Lily Blake

1950s
In my family we've been joking a bit about me being born in the wrong time period. I love highwaisted pants, shorts, skirts etc, I love the makeup looks, I love the hairstyles! I basically love the fashion from the 50's and everything else too!
  • The Best of Everything by Rona Jaffe
  • Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates

19th and early 20th century England
I'm also quite obsessed with Downton Abbey and I love Jane Austen.. So obviously this is a great time period.

Recommendations based on my love for Downton Abbey.
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte BrontĂ«
  • Always Emily by Michaela MacColl
  • Snobs by Julian Fellowes (the creator of Downton Abbey)

Russia.. probably also 19th and 20th century
I find Russia quite interesting and Anna Karenina has been one of my anticipated reads for quite a while now...

Scotland and Ireland anywhere between the 16th and 21st century
I absolutely love Ireland! and Scotland, well, Outlander - which I'm definitely going to read this year.

I'm quite tired of reading about World War II so I'm definitely not interested in going back to that period. Please let me know if you have any recommendations!
