Sign Up Post: Wicked Valentine's Read-a-thon

I just found this read-a-thon and it's PERFECT! We have a week of school, which means I have a full week to read! It is seriously perfect, especially since my boyfriend has to work the entire week, and I only have a couple of papers to do.

The Basics:

The Wicked Valentine’s Read-A-Thon is a time when we all get together to dedicate the days of February 7-17 to as much reading as possible. You read as much as you can in order to get yourself a little further through that huge to-read pile! We know real life gets in the way and even if you can’t participate more than one day, you’re welcome to join in on the fun!

In the meanwhile, we will be hosting book-related challenges where you can win some awesome prizes and have a Twitter party at the hashtag #WWReadathon! You can posts updates on your blog, Twitter, Goodreads or Facebook — as long as the profile is public and we all can enjoy your reading progress!

Participation:

When participating, you only have to read. However, it’s always fun reading starting posts and updates on your progress throughout the event! Even settling with a wrap-up post only to show how the reading went when it’s over, is fine if you want to share with us.

The Read-A-Thon will officially start Friday, February 7 at 12:0oam EST and end Monday, February 17 at 12:00am EST.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books that will make you cry

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the girls at The Broke and the Bookish. This tuesday it is all about the books that make us cry.

As usual in no particular order:

1. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green I have never cried as much as I did when I read TFiOS, it still makes me cry whenever I talk about it!

2. The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) by Brandon Sanderson This book has some very deep elements to it, it made me cry when Kelsier talked about his family and when Vin talked about her past...

3. Mockingjay (Hunger Games #3) by Suzanne Collins If you have read this book, you know what it is that will make you cry! And I just have to say - that is not playing nicely Collins, that is not playing nicely!

4. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness This book... I did not like that ending!

5. If I Stay (If I Stay #1) by Gayle Forman Also, that ending.... All throughout I was about to cry and then.. tears happened.

6. Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth - You know..

7. Life on the Refrigerator Door by Alice Kuipers - review

8. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher It is just so sad, and he is literally listening to a dead girl talk - that is creepy

9. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - and then all you love DIES

10. To Be a Slave by Julius Lester This is a collection of narratives from slaves, and it just makes me sad that people can be treated like that..

#AYearAThon - Monthly Read-a-thons! (Information)

I have heard a couple of people talking about a Harry Potter read-a-thon taking place in February, but I have never actually heard WHO is hosting it or WHEN in February. So when I found out that it was actually part of a bigger "plan" I knew I had to tell you about it.

So some people on youtube has made a year-long read-a-thon. There will be a read-a-thon the first week every month - and every read-a-thon also has a theme. I made an overview of the dates and months, but there is also an overview on their page (here).

I also found a video about it! YAY! So you can either choose to just read about it, or hear about it ;)

I don't know wether I will be participating in every read-a-thon, but I will participate in a couple at least! If you are going to be participating in any of them, let me know! I think I will be participating in Harry Potter, Twilight (currently re-reading the series), re-reads, finish series and classics.

I will probably be making a post about read-a-thons with dates and everything soon - I am trying to find a bunch of them!

Everyone loves Harry Potter. Now kids can learn about Harry's creator!

  In 1995, on a four-hour-delayed train from Manchester to London, J. K. Rowling conceived of the idea of a boy wizard named Harry Potter. Upon arriving in London, she began immediately writing the first book in the saga. Rowling's true-life, rags-to-riches story is as compelling as the world of Hogwarts that she created. This biography details not only Rowling's life and her love of literature but the story behind the creation of a modern classic.

I love J.K. Rowling, and she will always be one of my favorite authors.

This biography was funny, I guess it is written for kids, since there is a bunch of pictures, it is very easy to read and it takes about half an hour to read.

Did you know that she got the idea for the books on a trainride? Did you know that Snape is based on one of her teachers from elementary school? I did not, I loved finding out about these kinds of things. It makes me love the books even more!

Before she got published, she was actually poor, she had not enough money to feed both herself and her baby girl, Jessica. So she just fed Jessica, and when she was asleep, she pulled out her story and wrote.

All I have to say about this book is that you seriously have to read it if you are a J.K. Rowling fan, because this is phenomenal!

Since I love J.K. Rowling I have to give this book 5 hearts. Just read it!

January Wrap Up

I really want to start doing monthly wrap ups, it will hopefully help keeping me on track with my resolutions and challenges, and I can go back and see what my favorite books have been and such in the future. All links in these posts will transport you to my reviews of the books - and not goodreads as they usually do.

This month I read 8 books toward my goal of 50 books, so thats great! The books are listed according to rating!

In January I also read half of White Space (Dark Passages #1) by Ilsa J. Bick. I did not enjoy it, so when I had read half of it, and was still not enjoying it, I marked it as a DNF (=did not finish). (You can read a teaser here)

My 5. resolution is to "use the library more and cut back on buying books"... That resolution is not going that well. This month I read 2 books from the library (The Last Olympian and Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott) and I bought 6 books... It is not that bad since I bought 3 of them for 1$ - the other 3 weren't that expensive either, 1 was 6$ and the last 2 was 4$.

My 6. resolution is to "venture out of my comfort zone". I have read 2 books this month. I read a nonfiction book, which was a biograhy of J.K. Rowling (Who is J.K.Rowling by Pam Pollack and Meg Belviso) . And I read an adult high fantasy book (The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) by Brandon Sanderson)

My 7. resolution is to "participate in read-a-thons" and since it was time for the Bout of Books 9.0 read-a-thon. I was of course participating in it, see my progress, goals and the books I read here.

My extra resolution is "re-read some books" and I re-read one book, and that was Alice in Tumblr-land by Tim Manley

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, I found the wikia page for the series, and I just want to write all the things I know about the first book on there, but I don't know how... But I love checking it out and read about the different things!

I just learned to use Edelweiss! I have known about it since I started blogging, but it wasn't until I found this post on Book Riot, that I knew how to navigate and find the review copies on there.

My blog! I have a bunch of ideas for posts and mini-series, so I have tried to either write drafts or reached out to people this month. Since I am trying to put together a booktuber mini-series, and I want to make sure that they don't mind me using one of their videos.
