Weekly rewind 4.10.16

So, I've definitely had an interesting week! A lot of things, exciting things, have happened and time has flown by because of it. I'm looking forward to sharing everything with you guys!

On blogging
Even though I'm not totally back yet, I've been excited about blogging this week. I wrote my first proper review of 2 months and I'm pleased with it. I also shared my first 'read with me' post and it was quite a fun one to make! I really hope this is me being back! 


On reading

Well, it's not been the best week reading wise. I've started a bunch and then put them down again because I wasn't feeling it. Definitely in a semi-reading slump at the moment. 

I read the Danish version of I'm Still Here or Je Suis Lá by Clélie Avit and I LOVED it. It's definitely one of the best books I've read this year and I definitely recommend it! 

I also began both The Premature Death of Ana Ivan by Mikkel Rosengaard and Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff. I've read around 100 pages in each and I'm enjoying both. I'm going to meet Mikkel Rosengaard next week so I'm definitely making it a priority. 


On the shelf

Well, I bought some books again.. Or rather, I bought one, traded 3 and received 1. The Premature Death of Ana Ivan by Mikkel Rosengaard is the only one I've actually bought in April thus far and I only bought it because I need it for a signing (and maybe a meet-up) next week so I couldn't wait for it from the publisher or the bookish site I'm a reviewer for because it wouldn't get here on time. 

I found Station 11 on the 'take a book, leave a book' shelf in our local bookstore (where I got The Premature Death of Ana Ivan) so I figured I might as well grab it since I've been wanting to read it and it was technically free. I left two books though so I feel accomplished! 

I also went to 'The Bookworm' which is our local used bookstore and I always have a ton of credit there so I grabbed to books! I've checked out The Marriage Plot from the library a few times but I've never read it and Blue Diary sounds like the perfect readathon read! 

Lastly I received Sweettalk by Dorte Schou (Not translated into English). I'm having quite a hard time with it since it sounds interesting but I've not been able to get into it even though I've given it a couple of chances. It's only about 100 pages long so I even tried reading snippets from the middle and end but I'm not that interested in the writing style. I'm not sure what to do with it since I've received it from the publisher (unsolicited, though). 

On discoveries and happenings

Well, I mentioned a lot of stuff happened so we're doing bullets;

• I started the practical course as a teacher - which I talked a bit about in my last rewind - and I actually taught a student how to subtract! He's had a hard time with subtracting for a while but I taught him how to! 
• I got a mail from Mikkel Rosengaard, the author of The Premature Death of Ana Ivan, about meeting for a cup of coffee next week since he's in town! I'm excited. 
• I got another mail, this time from Goodreads, saying that I'm in the top 1% of Goodreads reviewers. I've written 246 reviews on Goodreads - that's quite a lot! 
• Well, I've fallen out with bullet journaling in the last few weeks but I've found my groove again this weekend. I've created so many new, useful, pages and I'm loving it! 
• Spring cleaning! I took the first big step towards my spring cleaning this week! It feels great! So now the room is visibly clean (I still live at home) and next week I'm cleaning out my closet, my bookshelf and boxes of stuff here and there.

Weekly rewind 4.3.16

Another week has come and gone! And I've definitely had an exciting week - even though I've been sick. On Friday I had my last day of the practical course I started in January and on Thursday I had a meeting with an old teacher of mine about a practical course at my old school as a TEACHER! So I'm quite excited!

On blogging
I've started blogging again! I have a few posts scheduled and even though we're just in the beginning of April I have a good feeling about it! 

I also tranferred my blog planner into my bullet journal and I'm loving it! I have good things coming! 


On reading

It's been an interesting week to be honest! I've been in a reading slump because of A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. It's been on my TBR for quite a while and I finally bought a copy for Christmas money back in December because it was going to be a book club book for April! I thought it would be a great, and quick, read and it's definitely not! I'm barely 30 pages in after 2 weeks and I have no desire to pick it up and continue reading.. It's a struggle! 

On Friday I began Half Irish which I'm definitely enjoying! I was loving the first 170 pages and then we got to the 'love' part and I'm losing interest. I'm looking forward to continue reading it later! Because it's going to be my first 'read with me'-post! 

Lastly.. I don't know whether to be ashamed or not, but I read the first three books in the Calendar Girl series by Audrey Carlan. I got the first one, January, for free and I needed something light to get me out of my reading slump Thursday night and it did it's job. I started February shortly after and I just finished March before writing this post. They're enjoyable but definitely not something special! 


On the shelf

I'm technically on a book buying ban this month - but that's to save money! On Saturday I gathered all the books I wanted to unhaul and went to our local used bookstore to trade them in for in store credit! So technically I didn't use any money on the books I got! I still have a ton of credit but The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger were the only books I wanted - for now. 

I also got a surprise package from Lindhardt & Ringhof - a Danish publishing company - containing the Danish translation of Losing it by Cora Cormack! It was released here in Denmark on Friday and people are loving it! 

Lastly I got a sample of the first volume of Calendar Girl which turned out to be the entire January section of the book! So now I have a physical, free, copy on my shelf!

So, March has felt like quite a long month to be honest! I got a ton of books in the first weeks and I read a ton in the beginning of the month too! I feel both accomplished and disappointed, weirdly enough. But March was a good month for me and I hope it was a good month for you too.

blogging goals
Well, I haven't really blogged that much this month and I'm quite sad about that! I've been neglecting my memes and to be honest, I just haven't been in the mood to blog at all. 

I'm still using my review spreadsheet which I found in January and I'm still loving it! I just added a new feature to it so I can keep track of my read short stories, novellas and graphic novels. I don't count those as books but I still want to keep track of them. 

Even though I've updated libib with all my new books this month I haven't fully updated it. I still need to update my status, tags etc, for each new book. 

I haven't used my blog planner this month, well, I've looked at it but I haven't actually used it. I've therefore tried to transfer it into my bullet journal for April because I hope it's a better format! Hopefully it works!

I'm actually quite proud of myself when it comes to my reading goals this month! At the moment of typing this I've read 9 books which adds up to 3366 pages! I hope to finish A Clockwork Orange before the month is over but I don't think it's realistic since I'm in a reading slump at the moment. The  9 books I read this month is;

This actually means that I finished a total of 3 series this month! And I read two complete series, out of those 3, this month! My total of finished series is now up to 9 and my goal was 7-10 so that's quite good - if I may say so myself.

3. The Dispossessed by Page Morgan

I didn't read (much) less YA this month since 6 out of those 9 books are YA - but I enjoyed all of them! 5 of those is also written by a Danish author, whom I absolutely love, so I enjoyed them nonetheless! And that was actually my reason for reading less YA - I didn't enjoy the majority of the ones I read last year. 

I reread the first book in The Shamer Chronicles, The Shamer's Daughter, this month and I really enjoyed it! The series got better and better for each book! 

8 out the 9 books I read were from my shelves (one from my digital shelf!) and I think that's the best I've done so far this year! I've read a total of 15 books from my shelves towards my goal of 50! So I need to get a move on - but April won't help with any of my goals... You'll find out why soon enough. 

I read a single classic, so now I've read 5 classics this year! I didn't finish a single audiobook and I've totally forgotten about my two yearlong reads; The Happiness Project and 365 stories. 

I almost forgot! I read a single graphic novel this month which is; Nimona by Noelle Stevenson! I gave it 5 out of 5 stars and I'm just waiting for my paycheck so I can buy myself a copy! It's definitely one of my favorite reads of the year so far! 

New on the shelf

Somehow I managed to acquire 24 new books this month - but I got rid of 15 books I'm not going to read. I also got rid of 3 books I know I'm not going to reread so at least I had space for all my new books!

My first ever OwlCrate unboxing!

On March 16th I received a mail saying that I'd received a 1 month gift subscription to OwlCrate from Andrea L. Wells. Andrea is the author of The Violet Hour series which currently includes The Midnight Hour (a prequel novella) and The Violet Hour. I received her book for review last year and we've been in contact ever since. Andrea is definitely the sweetest author I've ever 'met' and I definitely consider her a close personal friend! I was quite blown away when she told me that she got me something for my birthday and I was over the moon when I realized that it was an OwlCrate! 

So thank you very much Andrea! You've definitely made my month!

Weekly rewind 3.21.16

This week has been quite stressful. My brother had his confirmation yesterday, Sunday the 20th, and I tried to get everything sorted before. That didn't really happen and I think when you take in to account that I was also participating in Slay That Series, it wasn't realistic. At least I had a great week reading wise!

I almost forgot to mention that I'm currently taking my driver's licence! I had my first class on Tuesday (which is why Top Ten Tuesday didn't happen) and I actually have my third class today! I'm going to drive for the first time and I'm so scared!


On blogging
As I mentioned before I didn't have the time to blog because I had so many other things to do! I usually write my Top Ten Tuesdays on Tuesday mornings but since I have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays now I have to come up with another idea! I was quite good at writing them in advance last year but I'm definitely slacking this year! Hopefully April will be better!

I also forgot my First Paragraphs post on Friday.. but at least I posted something, right?


On reading

I mentioned that I was participating in Slay that Series which is a readathon where you 'slay' as many series as you want or can. I managed to finish 4 books and read a bit in 3 others! So, four books and bits and pieces adds up to 1468 pages which is quite good! 

I read four whole books - all by Lene Kaaberbøl! 

• The Shamer Chronciles #3-4: The Serpent Gift and The Shamer's War 
• Silverhorse which in Danish is Sølvhesten og Hermelinen 
• Midnight which in Danish is Isfuglen

I read bits and pieces of;

• The Wondrous and the Wicked (The Dispossessed, #1) by Page Morgan
• Little Women (Little Women, #1) by Louisa May Alcott  
• Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades, #3)

So I managed to finish 2 series - one of which I read the entirety of during the week! I really enjoyed marathoning series and I'll definitely participate in Slay that Series or other series readathons in the future!

On the shelf

So, I somehow managed to acquire 8 books without actually using any money! My dad got me the entire Little Women series by Louisa May Alcott as a little surprise! It've been on my wishlist for so long but somehow I never got around to buying it! Hopefully I'll enjoy all 4. 

I also got 4 books to review; 1 for this blog and 3 for my Danish blog but I might review 3 of them on here anyway! 

• I got a science fiction book from Mannah Pierce; Cast Adrift by herself, it's apparently set in space and I'm excited! I also have a guest post from Mannah to you guys closer to my review! 
• I got the Danish edition of Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff along with a nonfiction book about prominent characters in literature! It's not translated into English! 
• Lastly I have a Danish copy of Princess Bari by Hwang Sok-yong! 

I'm planning in making April 'All about the review books' so I'll hopefully get to these books soon! 

On discoveries and happenings

• I kind of got my birthday gift from Andrea L. Wells! I got a mail saying she'd bought me an Owlcrate so it's currently on its way here and I'm excited! 
• I got a mail containing a surprise for you guys! I'll soon be hosting a giveaway with 10 physical copies and therefore 10 winners and it's going to be international! 
• I ordered my first thing on society6 and it's also on it's way here! 
• I'm on a semi book-buying ban!

This week have definitely been good for reading! I've been on medical leave this week since I had to go to the doctor's on Sunday so I had a lot of time to read! I'm fine now and I have to go to work tomorrow so all is fine!

#FRIDAYREADS

My Friday reads is basically the books I read all week. I also read Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye at night this week since it's my eARC for the month. 

Even though I only finished a single book (which is technically two books) this week I read a lot! I read about 100 pages in Jane Steele, 100 pages in Sense and Sensibility and I'm now just over 400 pages in The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt! The book I finished is The Shamer Chronicles 1+2 which is The Shamer's Daughter and The Shamer's Signet both by Lene Kaaberbøl. 

I'm really enjoying all the books and I didn't expect to get through The Goldfinch this quickly! Hopefully I'll finish it next week! 

On the shelf

Yes, I bought A LOT of books this week but I blame my Birthday and good deals! Arnold Busck - which is one of our big bookstores here in Denmark - had this offer going where you could hand in an old book (in good condition, of course) and then get 50% off a new book! They were collecting books for this new 'swap a book' concept which is basically like the little free library where you leave a book to take a book!
Aside from that offer they also had this big sale going on.. Oops.

So, I got The Castle by Franz Kafka, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - which I've been wanting for a while and a book by a Danish author called Siden blev det for pænt. I had never heard about The Castle before but I love the penguin modern classics and the fact that he never actually finished this novel and it ends mid sentence made me NEED it.

For 50% off I got About Grace by Anthony Doerr and City on Fire by Garth Risk Hallberg which was just released here in Denmark.

I haven't read any of these yet but About Grace is on my reading stack for this month!

POLITIKENS BOGHAL, COPENHAGEN

So,  Denmark is a tiny country so even though I live in one end of the country and our capital is in the other end, we managed to drive there and back in a day. It's actually quite normal to do so because it's only a 3-4 hour drive from Esbjerg to Copenhagen. So, I got to visit this amazing bookstore called Politikens Boghal and it's in two storeys! I had some birthday money from my mom so I got these four books!

I've had my eye on both A Little Life and A Tale for the Time Being for a while now! So I couldn't pass them up! The Versions of Us has intrigued me ever since I saw it on netgalley and while I don't like historical fiction, especially involving World War II, I picked up All the Light We Cannot See because I just bought About Grace... Yes, that's my reason. 

Even though I don't have a picture I also got a 'Literary Listografi' which is basically bookish lists you have to fill in yourself! I have never seen anything like this in real life so I couldn't pass it up! 

I also got my very first penguin mug as a birthday present from my brother and this book clock from my other brother! 

I may have just ordered another book because I got a bunch of coupons from sites for my birthday.

February recap

FEBRUARY READS

That was February! It has been an okay month for me since I had a break from my practical course but I've also been sick. I didn't get a whole lot of reading done but I managed to reach my major goal for the month; to read The Complete Chronicles of Narnia cover to cover.

Well, I've been doing fine on my blogging goals! 

I've been keeping up with my 'for review' spreadsheet and I've also been using libib.com! So, at least I'm doing great in that departement.
I haven't used my blog planner a ton but I haven't totally neglected it! 

The goal I didn't reach last month was to update my review archive so it was up to date - but I did it this month and now I just have to update it on a regular basis! 
I also updated my drop down menu so the blog got a tiny makeover too! 


reading goals
Again, I'm doing fine but I've totally butchered my goal of reading from my shelves according to my spreadsheet! Apparently I have to read 5 books each month to reach my goal - but if I buy 2 books I have to read 7 to stay on track and since I received a whole bunch of books this month (review books don't count though) I'm now 16 books behind.. 

I read 9 books in February which adds up to 3048 pages!

I also read The Grownup by Gillian Flynn which was okay. If you've been with me for a while you know that I don't count short stories, novellas, children's literature and graphic novels as books which is why I count them on the side! 

With these books I managed to finish 3 series once again! Which means I now have to finish a single series and then I've reached my goal of finishing 7-10 series! The series I finished (and started) is;

• Omega Beginnings Miniseries by Lizzy Ford
• The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis 

I only read 1 YA book this month which was one of the Danish books on the list 62 Days and it was okay but again, I find I'm often disappointed by YA. At least I did great on my 'read (much) less YA' goal. 

This month I technically reread 3 books since I read the first three books in The Narnia Chronicles last year, but since it's the entire series in one book I can't really count it as a reread - but I did technically reread! 

This month I read 5 books from my shelf, which is the goal for each month so that's great! A bunch of these, 4 I believe, is on my 20 before 20 list so I did great with that list too! 3 of these were also classics so now I've read 4 towards my goal of 10 classics! 

I didn't finish any audiobooks but it's fine since I listened to 4 last month! All in all I count this month as a win!

Weekly rewind 2.21.16

And we're here again! I've been on a break this whole week so I've been able to read a lot! I also saw my mom on Thursday to grab lunch and we ended up shopping - well, we ended up in a bunch of different book stores and of course I left with some!

It's definitely been a great week with reading and blogging - I have a bunch of posts scheduled and I'm all caught up with reviews again! I've also been quite inspired by everything so I have a ton of ideas for new blog posts!

I feel like this has been the perfect month when it comes to blogging! I've written so many posts and for once I feel like I'm actually back! 

On reading

READS, THIRD WEEK OF FEBRUARY

Yes, I've read a ton this week! I finished Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed. I'm a bit hesitant going into Jane Steele now. I also continued The Complete Chronicles of Narnia but I only read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe even though I'd hoped to read The Horse and His Boy too - maybe I'll read it today? You can read a couple of thoughts on the first two books on The Narnia Chronicles here. 

Then, suddenly, I went on a bit of a reading spree. I read Hvor intet bryder vinden (=Where Nothing Breaks the Wind) by Leonora Christina Skov. It's basically a new interpretation of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. It was actually really great and definitely one of my favorite reads of the year so far! I then, finally, read The Storied Life of A.J. Fiery by Gabrielle Zevin. I've tried listening to it as an audiobook but I wanted to save all the lovely bookish quotes, I then borrowed it from the library but I ended up returning it. Now, since I just got it, I saw the perfect opportunity to read it! And it was great! Not as good as I was hoping though but wonderfully bookish! 

Lastly I have The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster. I tried picking it up earlier this month but I wasn't  feeling it. I've read about 50 pages and well, it's quite weird so far! Hopefully I'll end up really enjoying it! 

I also read The Grownup by Gillian Flynn this week and I really don't think she's the author for me. I've been disappointing by both this one and Gone Girl and I never finished Sharp Objects! 

On the shelf

I might have gone a bit crazy with books this week - but I didn't spend anything! I had some credits at my local used bookstore and I still have some left! My mom also got me one of them! 

The first two books are by Lene Kaaberbøl - the author of The Shamer Chronicles. I'm unsure whether the rest of her books are translated in English but I really enjoyed The Shamer's Daughter so I've slowly been collecting her books when I find them for a reasonable price! The first one is a standalone - which is definitely not something she usually writes - it's called The Shadow Gate or Gateway in English. The other book I bought is Wildwitch which is her newest series! 

My mom got me The Storied Life of A.J. Fry as an early birthday present because she knew I wanted it. As you can tell from the picture above I've already read it! It's so bookish!

The last Danish book I got is Idun by Johanne Hildebrandt. It's a name, so I can't translate it! It's the second one in a series about Northern mythology and I just love reading about northern mythology! I'm not going to read Rick Riordan's new series though - he's not really the author for me! 

Even though I'm quite hesitant about Steinbeck I couldn't pass up Sweet Thursday or the bindup of Of Mice and Men and Cannery Row. As far as I can tell Sweet Thursday is the sequel to Cannery Row or at least takes place in the same area. I hope all three are better than The Pearl! 

It is not often that I buy books I've already read but I had to buy The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon! Even though I initially gave it 3 stars I've been raving about and I've been in the mood for rereading so it's perfect! 

Lastly I bought The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart. Apparently a man lets a dice make all his decisions or something along those lines and both my sister and brother wants to borrow it! It's also quite a nice edition! 

I also received a book for review, but since it's in Danish it's not too interesting for you guys. 

On discoveries

This week I found out what a bullet journal is and I now have two dotted notebooks from Moleskine in the post. It's so cute and I love that I can style it the way I want!

Weekly rewind 2.14.16

Here I am, once again, with my weekly wrap up! Do tell me if there's anything you think I should add or are curious about! I love making wrap ups, as you probably know by now!

On blogging
This week I re-found my love for blogging, again! I wrote a bunch of posts, just like last week, and I scheduled a whole ton of them! 

I still haven't heard back from Odera O'Gonuwe about her author interview, which I'm really looking forward to sharing with you but I have other things planned! Like a guest post from Penni Mannas Diefendorf, an excerpt from Thirst by R.P. Channing - and an interview with him as well. (But now we're getting ahead of ourselves. 

Next week is actually a holiday here in Denmark which means a whole week to read and blog! 

On reading

READS, SECOND WEEK OF FEBRUARY

Reading wise it's been an okay week. I read and finished Omega Beginnings Miniseries by Lizzy Ford. It's been quite a while since I read Omega, which is the first book in the 'main' series, but I really enjoyed learning more about certain characters. It's great and you can expect a review on February 18. There's also a review of Omega here. 

I'm still reading Jane Eyre and I'm still really enjoying it! Mr. Rochester has arrived and well, his dialogue is quite hard to understand at times but I like learning more about him. 
I also began The Complete Chronicles of Narnia this week since I have to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for our bookclub which is meeting on March 2. My plan is to make some treats from the book - since it's my birthday and I need to bring goodies - so I need to read it in advance. 

I finished another book this week, last night actually, but I'm not sure it's translated to English yet. It's called 62 Days by Cilla Naumann. It's definitely not something I'd pick up for myself, but I received it earlier this week from a Danish publisher. I think my brother would like it though - he can feel a bit special reading an unreleased book, right? 

On the shelf

THE SILKWORM (CORMORAN STRIKE, #2) & CAREER OF EVIL (CORMORAN STRIKE, #3) BOTH BY ROBERT GALBRAITH

This week has brought a few surprises! I bought The Silkworm (Cormoran Strike, #2) and Career of Evil (Cormoran Strike, #3) last week and I received them this week! Or rather, I received The Silkworm and a large print version of Career of Evil - which I had to send back. I therefore bought another copy of Career of Evil which luckily isn't a large print version! My J.K. Rowling collection is complete for now! 

I also received 3 books for review; 

I received a random package from a Danish publisher containing two upcoming releases. One was 62 Days which I've already read and the other is about a hairdresser called Angelika Lagermark. The book is written by Anna Jansson and the title sounds weird translated directly; The Destiny Goddess (or The Fate) from Salon d'Amour. I don't believe it's translated into English yet either.

AUGUST 2016

I love 'project' type books like The Happiness Project. I've been wanting to read more memoirs which involve some kind of goal and this was perfect. It's actually already released, but I don't know if this contains something extra, whether it's just another publisher or if it's just the second edition! I'm looking forward to reading it though. 

On discoveries
I discovered that my boyfriend actually gives a damn about my reading and blogging! He came up with an awesome idea for my blog planner which I'm going to share with you guys in a few weeks. 

I discovered some apps, both bookish and non-book related; 

• Metalalia, which is an app containing stories but I'm not really sure how it works yet. It's cute though. 
• There's also Blinkist which is a way to read nonfiction books in 15 minutes or less - as far as I can tell from their website you get a free trial and then you can choose from 3 plans (free, plus and premium). Correct me if I'm wrong! 
• Splitwise! I often buy groceries while I'm out shopping or buy other stuff for my family or boyfriend. Splitwise is a great way to keep track of what you owe and what others owe you! Also, if you split a bill it's perfect! It's completely free too and I really like the setup. 

On all the rest
This week on the blog;

• My review of Moth Girls finally went up and I can't say that you're going to want to buy the book! 
• I also shared some of my favorite love stories on Tuesday! 
• On wednesday I revealed the cover of In Your Dreams by Ginger Scott which is H.O.T. 
• I chose to change the name of my Book Beginnings to First Paragraphs and this week the book was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I of course also shared a few thoughts along with the first paragraph. 

Next week;

• There's a guest post from Penni Mannas Diefendorf, an author, tomorrow! 
• I of course have a Top Ten Tuesday as always - this weeks it's about songs I wish were books
• Then, hopefully,  have a review of Omega Beginnings Miniseries by Lizzy Ford 
• Friday is as always reserved for a book beginning - which is now First Paragraphs! I'm not sure which book to share next week yet. Maybe Hidden Bodies since my review will be up on the release day (Feb. 23)? 
• Lastly I have an excerpt of Thirst by R.P. Channing for you guys on Saturday!
